Citizens Planning Rallies Against Casinos

Kentucky Capitol.jpgCitizens concerned about proposals to bring casinos to Kentucky are beginning to make their voices heard with the General Assembly in Frankfort. Two important rallies have been scheduled at the state capitol building in the next few weeks.

  • African-American Christian leaders will hold a rally in the rotunda Feb. 6 from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Everyone is welcome to attend regardless of race. The focus of the rally will be on the impact that expanded gambling tends to have on lower income individuals which is disproportionately represented by the African-American community.
  • Women Against Gambling Expansion, will be rallying in the rotunda on Feb. 12 from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Kentucky WMU Executive Director Joy Bolton is urging Kentucky Baptist women to make the trip to Frankfort for this important rally. Men are also welcome to attend but the focus of the rally will be on the devastating impact that casinos will have on women and families

Now Is The Time to Contact Legislators

pen & ink.jpgGov. Steve Beshear will give his budget speech on Jan. 29 and is expected to follow that up in early February with his proposal for bringing casinos to Kentucky. This means that it is very important for gambling expansion opponents to be contacting their state legislators now by letter, e-mail and phone.

A personal hand-written letter probably carries the most weight but all three methods of contact are needed. Find the contact information for all legislators by visiting:
