The National Coalition Against Legalized Gambling
The dramatic growth of gambling
is not the result of a popular movement. Rather, it is driven
by the gambling industry with its high priced lobbyists and pie-in-the
sky promises. In response volunteer citizens have formed state
and local groups to oppose the spread of gambling.
In May 1994 some of these groups from across the United States
came together to create the National Coalition Against Legalized
Gambling (NCALG). By educating the public about the negative consequences
of gambling, we will not only stop its expansion, but roll back
this menace that is destroying our society.
The Catholic Conference of Kentucky
The Catholic Conference of Kentucky website contains many articles against the expansion of gambling
from a Roman Catholic Perspective. This site is also a valuable
source of Legislative information. The Catholic Conference of
Kentucky (CCK) is an agency of the Catholic Bishops, established
in 1983. It speaks for the Church in matters of public policy,
serves as liaison to government and the legislature, and coordinates
communications and activities between the church and secular agencies.
There are 388,000 Catholics in the Commonwealth. The Bishops of
the four Roman Catholic dioceses of KY constitute CCK's Board
of Directors.
The Kentucky
Council of Churches
Over 800,000 members of the Kentucky Coucil of Churches are represented
by the policy statements they have adopted against the expansion
of gambling. The KCC offers a Legislative Action service that
makes it extremely easy for Church members to make a difference;
this
service contacts you about inportant legislation and makes
it very easy to contact your leaders when you can make a difference.
